I want to know if my request (petition) has been sent?
It is good to ask your specialist for a copy of the petition (request). By doing this AZV can check -for sure- on which day your request has been received. The petition will be evaluated by the “Committee On Cross-border Care” (CGZ). After evaluation of the petition, CGZ will give an advice. In most cases, AZV accepts the advice of CGZ. If it’s an approval from AZV, this means that AZV will arrange your appointment, travel and stay for the insured as well as its social companion. The insured will go to the country assigned by AZV.
Where will I go?
You will travel to the country that AZV assigns. AZV works with Curaçao, Colombia, Holland and the United States of America.
When will I travel abroad?
The moment AZV receives all information from the hospital abroad, including the confirmation of the appointment as well as the treatment plan.
When will I receive the letter for my social companion? (the 'begeleidersbrief')
The letter will be given after the appointment with the hospital abroad is confirmed, travel tickets are bought (by AZV) and all details regarding the travel are confirmed. In the near future the insured will see this information in the AZV app.
Why do I have to stay so long abroad?
The duration of your treatment depends on which illness you have as well as how your body reacts to the treatment.
Where will I stay?
You will stay in the country where AZV sends you. All information will be provided to you by our Department of Medical Treatment Abroad.
How much money will I receive from AZV?
The daily allowance (or financial support) from AZV is a sum of $25 per day (Colombia, Curacao, USA) and is given to the patient. The daily allowance is given to help cover food and water.
Is there a pick up service at the airport?
No. Every patient and or it’s social companion are responsable for their own transportation. AZV gives a sum of $40 (one time only!) as a support in the transportation expenses.
Can I travel after the date (period) indicated by the specialist?
You will have to discuss this with your specialist and he will inform AZV upon this.

AZV arranges the travelticket and covers the hotel or apartment. The social companion is responsable for his own food and beverage during the stay. Additionally we recomend for the social companion to buy a travel insurance, as medical emergencies of the social companion are not covered by AZV.
How is the process in case I want to switch my social companion?
A switch is posible, but AZV won’t cover the costs of a second (or more) companion. In case you are intending to switch your social companion, please advice -upfront and timely- our Department of Medical Treatment Abroad. They will then take this information into account when making the guarantee letters.
